我代表过程研究中心很荣幸地欢迎您参加首届过程诗歌会议。本次会议主题为“在生态文 明时代，诗人追求着什么？关于过程诗歌的贡献”。
过程哲学是一种关系哲学。有人可能会说，过程思维提供了慈悲的形而上学，因为现实被 描述为一个感受的网，在那里存在必须懂得感受他人的情感。我的朋友杰·麦克丹尼尔曾说“: 音乐就是感受的声音。”我认为诗歌和音乐一样，是情感的表达。如果说诗歌表达的是感情，而感情又是现实的基础，那么诗歌就是对事物本质的一种真正重要的实践。
在过程哲学中，感受是核心，因为现实是建立在点滴经验之上的。经历的瞬间(不是持久的 物质)是现实的基石。当我们经历时，我们会有感受，这些感受就是价值。因此，过程世界是一 个充满价值的世界——一个由珍重感受的主体形成的群体。这就是为什么过程世界观被认为是 生态世界观的原因之一，因为主观性、感觉和价值延伸到所有的生命实体(不仅仅是人类)。因此， 把今天的过程诗歌大会也将生态文明的视野纳入其中是非常合适的。
生态文明展望一个善待所有人的世界。它旨在促进生命繁荣的人类社区形式——人类和地 球的长期福祉。去生活就是去体验，去体验就是去感受，而感受需要联结。生态文明是人类及 其他生物和谐相处的文明，是经济、农业、教育、政治等在关系原则指导下共同发展的文明。 诗歌可以是释放隐匿的创造力的重要工具，激发我们对生机盎然的地球的同情，同时挖掘现实 最根本的特征:感情。因此，我非常感谢白鸦先生这样的专家，他是中国过程诗社的领军人物，他从过程的角度诠释了诗歌的意义。
我也要感谢科布研究所和中国后现代发展研究所对这次活动的共同赞助。我毫不怀疑，这 一过程诗人的国际聚会将激励所有在场的人，推进生态文明的发展目标。

Poetry can inspire our compassion for a living Earth
---Welcome Remarks Process Poetry Conference

On behalf of the Center for Process Studies It is my privilege to welcome you to the first ever process poetry conference titled, "What Are Poets For in the Age of Ecological Civilization?: The Contributions of Process Poetry."
Process philosophy is a relational philosophy. One might say that process thought offers a metaphysic of compassion, since reality is described as a web of feeling whereby existence entails feeling the feelings of others. My friend Jay McDaniel has said that "music is what feelings sound like." I would argue that poetry, like music, is an expression of feeling. If poetry expresses feelings, and feelings are fundamental to reality, then poetry is a truly important practice in the nature of things.
In process philosophy feeling is central because reality is built upon drops of experience. Moments of experience (not enduring substances) are the building blocks of reality. When we experience we feel, and what we feel are values. Hence, the process world is a world permeated with values--a community of subjects at the center of values felt. This is one of the reasons why the process worldview is considered an ecological worldview, because subjectivity, feeling, and value are extended to all living entities (not just humans). So it's fitting that today's process poetry conference is also engaging the vision of ecological civilization.
An ecological civilization is a vision of a world that works for all. It refers to forms of human communities designed to promote the flourishing of life--the long-term wellbeing of people and the planet. To live is to experience, to experience is to feel, and feeling entails relating. To build a civilization in which humans live in harmony with each other and the more-than-human world, where our economies, agriculture, education, politics, etc. are guided by the principles of relationality for the common good--this is what ecological civilization might look like. Poetry can be an important tool for unlocking dormant creativity, inspiring compassion for a living Earth, while tapping into the most basic features of reality: feeling. Therefore, I’m extremely grateful to experts like Mr. Bai Ya, a leading figure of the Chinese Process Poetry Community, for demonstrating the significance of poetry from a process perspective.
I also want to thank the Cobb Institute and the Institute for Postmodern Development of China for co-sponsoring this event. I have no doubt that this international gathering of process poets will inspire all who are present, advancing the goals of an ecological civilization.
